An inspiring story about a female athlete who overcame significant hardships to pursue her dream, ultimately making history in the process.

Synopsis

Nyad tells the extraordinary story of Diana Nyad, a long-distance swimmer who, at 64, accomplished what many believed was impossible. This film delves into Nyad's incredible journey to swim 110 miles from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida without a shark cage, capturing both the physical and psychological challenges she faced.

With intimate interviews, archival footage, and scenes of her intense preparation and the daunting swim itself, Nyad reveals one woman’s immense willpower and perseverance to defy  expectations, ageism, and the harsh elements of nature. It celebrates the idea that it's never too late to pursue your dreams, highlighting the human connection to the ocean, the determination to overcome limits, and the profound courage required to face the unknown.

This film isn't just about a historic swim; it's a story of dreaming big and the relentless pursuit of those dreams, stroke by stroke.

Jackie's thoughts

I highly recommend the movie Nyad to anyone who will listen to me—it was one of my favorite movies ever!

I remember hearing about Diana Nyad's swim attempts when I was young but didn't know the full story, so I was curious to watch this film. I'm so happy I did, because I was all-in on her adventure and rooting for her every step of the way. She was obsessed with this crazy goal, and while even as a Master's swimmer I could not relate to her desire to swim from Cuba to Florida, I can 100% admire and be inspired by her drive to make the impossible possible! Diana was 64 when she re-embarked on this challenge, and as a 50+ woman, I started believing that I can still achieve many of my life goals, even the crazy ones!

The acting from Annette Bening (Diana) and Jodie Foster (Bonnie) was stellar. It was heartwarming for me to watch the deep bond they shared through all the ups and downs. This is a female friendship that spans decades and my wish is that we can all have a friendship like theirs in our lives, one where we unconditionally support and love each other.
