A break from all the murder shows on TV with hilarious and relatable school scenarios that feature warm and funny characters that make you laugh-out-loud!
Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary-style show that follows the second grade teachers in one of the worst public schools in America. Overzealous Janine, played by show creator Quinta Brunson, is the Pollyanna of teachers. She makes it her mission to make Abbott the best it can be every day. She is joined by veteran teachers who, propelled by their love of teaching and hindered by a hilariously incompetent principal, try to navigate new technology, clueless parents, and the school district’s lack of funding to hilarious results. It’s The Office meets Parks and Recreation and will remind you of elementary school and your favorite 2nd-grade teacher.
Let’s face it—given the state of network TV, it’s refreshing to find a show like Abbott Elementary. I am hooked! Anyone who has ever been in a classroom, has a child, or knows a teacher, will laugh out loud. I don’t remember laughing so hard as I do when Janelle James, who plays the principal, is onscreen. The writers of this show are brilliant, the actors feel like they’ve been working together forever, and the characters are rich with history. Nothing is one-note, and not a word is wasted in Abbott Elementary. It’s one of those great word-of-mouth shows—I told my mom about it, and she told her friend, and so on… It’s also a PG show, so it’s easy to watch with the whole family. I’m thrilled that it’s been renewed for a 2nd season.
