Dead to Me
Watch it for...
The dramatic thrill of finding out how two seemingly unconnected women have intertwined lives, and the humor they use to cope with their bizarre situations!
Dead to Me is about the powerful friendship that blossoms between a newly frazzled widow and a quirky woman with a big secret. Jen (Christina Applegate) has recently lost her husband after a hit-and-run accident, and the cynical widow is determined to solve the crime. Optimistic and free-spirited Judy (Linda Cardellini) has also recently suffered a tragic loss of her own. The two women meet at a support group and, despite their beyond polar-opposite personalities, become unlikely friends. As the women bond over countless bottles of wine and their losses, Judy tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. This dark comedy, which explores grief, loss, and forgiveness with sharp wit and smart humor, is a jaw-dropping show viewers will want to finish in one night!
This is one of my favorite shows! I started watching during the pandemic because I am a huge fan of dark comedies, especially when the main characters are women. I love a good murder mystery that ties in comedic moments and a bit of romance, so Dead to Me was a no-brainer—I was hooked even after I just watched the trailer! I loved seeing the two women become best friends later in life. It really goes to show how female friendships are so important regardless of what your age is. I know that without a friend to confide in, it’s easy to feel lost and alone, and that was clear onscreen!
The recurring theme of the destructive force of hidden truths was interesting and refreshing to see. No one is rewarded for the secrets they keep, even though they’re trying to protect themselves and to protect each other. They’re both in mourning for similar losses, but go about it in very different ways, which I thought was also nice to see as an exploration of grief. Every episode was mysterious, and left me wanting more. I wish I could go back and watch it for the first time again. It’s so good!
