Younger
Watch it for...
A fun, sexy, and thought-provoking romp through New York City alongside a charming forty-something who’s pretending to be in her mid-twenties!
Synopsis
Younger strikes the perfect balance between an aspirational and cautionary tale, tracing a fantasy that so many of us have had: "what if I could pretend to be someone else just for a moment, and end up with my dream job, guy, and life?" When freshly-divorced empty nester Liza struggles to re-enter the workforce, she forges an identity as a mid-20s firecracker and must navigate balancing her newfound lifestyle with staying true to herself. Witty and absurd yet cozy and heartfelt, this series is led by an energetic cast (including one of my favorites, Hilary Duff!). Extraordinarily fun to watch, Younger tastefully explores poignant issues of ageism and sexism, all while embracing its comedic approach to friendship, love, and everything in between.
I loved that this show connects to women of all ages. Whether you’re in your 20s, like me, and find solace in ‘coming of age’ or ‘trying to figure it out’ tropes, or in your 40s, like Liza, and can live vicariously through her antics, Younger is an all-you-can-eat buffet that keeps you coming back for more. I’m also a sucker for the sentimentality of a show that romanticizes big-city life (think Sex and the City or Friends), and this one perfectly wraps up my niche fantasy of going on dates at rooftop martini bars, taking the subway to Brooklyn for a quick bite, or going to an art show after a hard day’s work at a Manhattan-based publishing company. I watched all 6 seasons and cherished every second of them!
