Watch it for...

A serious boost in your intersectional feminist convictions from this fable-like anthology of eight extremely different women and their stories!

Synopsis

Roar, based on a short story collection by Cecelia Ahern, follows eight different women navigating different scenarios in each episode. Most episodes have fantastical or supernatural elements, but each one is a clear metaphor for the real-life challenges that women encounter. The women of Roar face things like solving a young woman's murder dismissed by male detectives, being eaten alive by balancing new motherhood with a career, cherishing memories of a mother with dementia, disappearing after being ignored by white ignorance, and much more. A star-studded cast—including Issa Rae, Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Alison Brie, and others—captivate and compel their audience with a uniquely fierce grace.

Chloe's thoughts

I cried during every episode of Roar! It’s a difficult show to describe, and I think everyone will see something different in the stories that are being told, but that’s part of the magic. I wanted to watch the show because I had read that the concept, original source material, and main cast are all made up of women. It was also created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch (who blessed us with GLOW), and I continue to be a huge fan of their work. It really is the most feminist anthology I've ever seen, in addition to being an extraordinary watch. I recommend Roar to anyone who will listen. Don’t miss it!
